New bridge in Brooklyn

Granite Halmar Construction Co. Inc. has constructed a bridge, in Brooklyn, New York, in 261 days. To assure the bridge has long-term durability and resistance to the corrosive attack of the area’s marine environment and road salt, bridge units and parapet barriers were reinforced with solid stainless steel rebar. The rebar chosen was about 400,000lbs of a duplex stainless steel known as Alloy 2205 in No. 5 and No. 7 diameter sizes and 40ft lengths. While the new Belt Parkway Bridge was open to both east-bound and west-bound traffic as early as 6, September, 2004, Granite Halmar completed all work affecting roadways on 20, November, 2004, which was 29 days ahead of schedule. The project reached substantial completion on 3, December, 2004. All work was completed and accepted on 16, February, 2005.
