Minimill facilities at Belgo Mineira

Belgo Mineira, Brazil, part of the Arcelor Group, will expand the group’s production capacity with the installation of new steel-making and hot-rolling facilities. The new facilities, recently ordered with Danieli, will add 500,000 tonnes/year of addition production capacity at the Piracicaba works. The new facility includes: a130-tonne Danieli CentroMet EAF equipped with four Danarc Modules for oxygen and carbon injection; a 130-tonne ladle furnace.
Ferro-alloy charging system; a new pulse-jet type fume treatment plant; facilities to directly link the upgraded conticaster to the rolling mill for hot charging; Danieli Morgårdshammar high-speed bar mill; electricals and fully integrated automation system (Danieli Automation).
120 tonne/hour walking hearth reheat furnace (Danieli Centro Combustion). The new high-speed bar mill will be capable of producing 16- to 63.5-mm diameter plain bars and 6.35- to 32-mm-diameter deformed bars at a rate of up to 90 tonnes/hour in cold-charge mode or 120 tonne/hour in hot-charge mode. Plant start-up is scheduled for the end of 2003.
