Zhangjiagang Posco Stainless Steel, Posco’s subsidiary in China, has attained combined total output of 1 million tonnes. As of August, the corporation has produced 500,000 tonnes of galvanised steel sheets, coming just four years and two months after the start-up of the operation, while its production output of stainless cold-rolled coil reached 500,000 tonnes after beginning operations slightly more than three and a half years ago. 500,000 tonnes of stainless cold-rolled coil – which last year made up 37% of the total 1.35 million tonnes of stainless cold-rolled coil consumed in China – amounts to a volume that, if stretched out, could wrap around the Earth 1.4 times. Zhangjiagang Posco Stainless Steel has thus far purchased 520,000 tonnes of stainless hot-rolled coil and 170,000 tonnes of galvanised steel sheets from Posco. Posco currently has 12 local joint corporations in the country, including seven production and distribution bases. The company began establishing production and distribution branches in the early 1990s in China’s three biggest regions: in the east, Zhangjiagang Posco Stainless Steel Co.; in the south, Shunde Posco Coated Steel Co.; and in the north, Dalian Posco-CFM Coated Steel Co.
