Matty wins the “Early Years Industry Awardâ€?: EEMUA

EEMUA announced that the winner of its inaugural “Early Years Industry Awardâ€? is Matty Smith of Phillips 66.

The Award recognizes the efforts of new starters within the engineering field in EEMUA Member companies.

Matty was a convincing candidate against a strong field of EEMUA Member nominees. The award committee was impressed by his early career achievement and his strong emphasis on not only his own personnel development but in supporting his organization and the next generation of engineers in his local community through his STEM engagement. Matty’s application demonstrated the importance placed on innovation within Phillips 66 on sustainability of their operations via their “Fuelling the future” initiative to address the rapidly changing market conditions facing the Humber refinery and environmental pressures associated with climate change, whilst maintaining engagement of workforce and community.

The committee in making their decision recognized that there was clear alignment between Matty’s application, Phillips 66 operating philosophy and EEMUA’s core values of enabling the sharing of members’ experiences to develop good and best practice and promote a skilled and competent workforce.
