Lurgi to supply Austrian plant

Lurgi Energie und Entsorgung GmbH (Ratingen, Germany) has won the order for the supply and construction of the combustion part of a residue processing and sewage sludge incineration plant designed to produce district heat for Vienna, Fernwärme Wien/WSO4. The company, part of the Lurgi Lentjes Group, Düsseldorf, was awarded the order by Integral Montage Anlagen- und Rohrtechnik GmbH, Vienna, the general contractor responsible for the complete energy plant. The utility company Fernwärme Wien AG is the ultimate customer and future operator of the plant. Start-up has been scheduled for autumn 2003.
The scope of supply comprises equipment for fuel supply to the fluidised bed firing system, the fluidised bed furnace itself, complete with air supply, as well as the handling of the bed ash produced in the incineration process. The specific technical feature of the plant is the fluidised bed furnace based on Lurgi’s ROWITEC® (rotating fluidised bed) technology in which a combination of five different waste types can be processed. Aside from municipal waste and sewage sludge it is also possible to burn spent oil, heavy oil and laden activated lignite coke.
In this fourth fluidised bed firing plant at the location Simmeringer Haide in Vienna, around 90,000 tons of municipal waste from Vienna and 6000 tons of sewage sludge are to be incinerated. The steam produced will be routed to the existing co-generation plant to produce power and heat which will be fed to the district heat grid.
