The all-metal FLA Series gear couplings from Lovejoy Inc. feature precision labyrinth seals that retain lubricant and repel contaminants without rubber o-rings, for extended service and reduced maintenance efforts in high-temperature mechanical power-transmission applications most commonly found in steel mills.
Made of alloy steel, all models incorporate industry-standard dimensional and performance specifications. Flanged sleeves are fastened with exposed heat-treated bolts and locknuts unless otherwise specified. The flexible hubs can be specified with bore diameters up to 8 inches (200 mm), and rigid hubs up to 10 inches (250 mm). Straight-face gear teeth permit up to ½° of angular misalignment per flexible hub. The standard FLA model type features two flexible hubs to accommodate limited parallel and angular misalignment, as well as end float. The FLAFR model combines a flexible hub and a rigid hub, one without gear teeth; tolerating angular misalignment only, this type is most commonly used in floating shaft applications. Mill motor versions of the FLA and FLAFR feature one tapered hub — custom bored to fit tapered mill motor shafts — and one standard hub, housed in standard sleeves.
