Lockheed Martin to work on Reignwood’s OTEC projec

Lockheed Martin is joining hands with the Reignwood Group to develop a 10MW Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) pilot power plant off the coast of southern China.
Lockheed Martin signed a memorandum of agreement to design the OTEC plant for a low-carbon, large-scale resort to be built by Reignwood Group. OTEC uses the natural temperature difference between the deep and shallow or surface ocean waters in tropical regions to generate power. The baseload power plant is well-suited for island and coastal communities where other sources of power are expensive due to high energy transportation costs.

Once the plant is operational, both companies are expected to draw on the knowledge from this pilot project to improve the design of additional commercial-scale plants to be built over the next 10 years.
