Flex LNG Ltd has concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a leading international energy corporation for a floating liquefaction project. The scheme will employ at least one of Flex LNG’s two M-Flex LNG carriers currently on order at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in Korea. The 90,000m3 vessels will be built to a special flexible design that enables them to function in a variety of roles according to operator requirements. They can be configured as conventional LNG carriers, as floating storage and regasification units or as floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels. The MOU covers the provision of a vessel for use in the latter, FPSO role. Flex LNG has designated the ship as an LNG Producer Vessel (LNGPV). The LNGPV will have an annual liquefaction capacity of 1.0 million tonnes per annum (mta) and the unit will be employed on a long-term contract in the Australasia region. The contract period will commence immediately after delivery from SHI in 2011.
