LG Chem Ltd, Korea’s largest chemicals maker, plans to more than double its manufacturing capacity of electronic filters geared for plasma-display panels next year. LG Chem’s monthly capacity will increase from 60,000 units to 150,000 by the end of next year to take up one-fifth of the global market, which is dominated by Japanese rivals, the company said. It began producing PDP filters in January at the company’s Ochang electronics complex in South Chungcheong Province. Following investments in optical films for liquid-crystal-display panels and rechargeable batteries for notebooks and handsets, the company has tried to find a future growth engine in the PDP filter business.
