Large power plant planned for Madrid

Gas Natural, the Spanish gas group, is studying the construction of a power station in Madrid to take advantage of the increasing demand for electricity in the region. The company and the regional government are in talks about the location of the plant. The power station would be a combined-cycle plant. If it was an 800mw plant, the investment would be EUR 360 million. Sector sources say the ideal location would be southern Madrid, where there is easy access to the gas pipeline from Algeria, and the river Tagus.
