On 14 October 2008, Kenmare Resources confirmed that it was making progress in ramping up production at its Moma Titanium Mineral Sands Project in Mozambique. Kenmare has been hit by various operational hiccups at Moma, and was forced to raise an additional USD 30 million in August 2008 to provide working capital while it moves towards full production and undertakes a feasibility study to expand the capacity of the mine. In September 2008 Kenmare dredged 32% more in-situ ore than August 2008, and 7% more than its best month, which was June 2008. 50,000tns of Heavy Mineral Concentrate was produced in September, up from 33,500tns in August and 43,500tns in June. September production was hit by a fault in Mozambique’s electricity transmission system, which resulted in 62 hours of lost production. The company shipped 11,000tns of ilmenite in September and 10,000tns in early October. Kenmare Resources main asset is the Moma Titanium Minerals Mine, located on the coast of Mozambique. The Moma Mine contains reserves of heavy minerals which include the titanium minerals ilmenite and rutile, as well as the high-value zircon mineral.
