Jindal Stainless has forged a partnership with JBM Auto Ltd. to manufacture over 500 energy-efficient and lightweight stainless steel electric buses. Under this collaboration, Jindal Stainless will supply JT Tubes, composed of low-carbon, chromium-manganese austenitic stainless steel, to JBM Auto. This material, referred to as N7 according to the Bureau of Indian Standards specification 6911, boasts three times the strength of the carbon steel typically utilized in bus fabrication. JBM Auto, equipped with an order book exceeding 5000 electric buses, is transitioning from carbon steel to stainless steel fabrication methods, aiming to achieve lightweighting, improved performance, and heightened strength and durability of the buses.
Simultaneously, JBM Auto is in the process of converting its export orders for electric buses into energy-efficient stainless steel buses. The material will be sourced through Jindal Stainless’ domestic service arm, specializing in customization and value addition, known as Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited (JSSL). The JT Tubes, supplied by JSSL, will be integrated into the buses’ superstructure, tailored specifically for domestic operations in Telangana to withstand its corrosive environment.
