Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has won a contract from Koch Petroleum Group for project and construction management services of Koch’s grassroots No. 3 Hydrogen Plant. The project includes detailed engineering and design of the offsite facilities at Koch’s Pine Bend refinery. Jacobs has also received a contract from Century Contractors Inc. to provide engineering, architecture, procurement, and validation services for the completion of Biopure Corp.’s large-scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Jacobs’s scope of work includes engineering, procurement, and construction management services for the new plant, which will enhance the refinery’s capability for producing low-sulphur fuels and processing synthetic crude oil. The project will create a hydrogen facility capable of producing approximately 35 million standard cubic feet per day in support of the refinery’s ongoing Clean Fuels Program. In 1999, Koch introduced Blue Plant gasoline, which already meets EPA’s 2006 gasoline sulphur requirements, to the Minneapolis-St Paul area. This hydrogen facility will allow for additional production of clean-fuels products.
