Italy: SS pickling line

ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni and SMS Demag have signed a contract for the construction of a new annealing and pickling line for stainless hot-rolled strip in Terni, Italy. The line will be built in the direct vicinity of the existing wide hot strip mill to ensure optimum logistics. Commissioning is scheduled to take place in the 3rd quarter of 2007. The investment volume totals EUR 50 million. This production line will have a capacity of around 650,000 tonnes per year, allowing it to replace several existing lines. The end product of this line, ie hot rolled pickled stainless steel strip with a maximum width of 1,570mm and thicknesses of 1.5 to 7mm, will be used as feedstock for the group’s own cold rolling mills and for the supply to the tube and pipe industry.
