ISO 14001 certification for LTV Steel

LTV Steel’s Indiana Harbor Works has been recommended for ISO 14001 certification and is expected to be the first integrated domestic steel facility to receive the certification. The impending certification culminated a two-year team effort to implement the new environmental management system at Indiana Harbor Works, which involved virtually all of the plant’s 2700 employees. To meet the ISO 14001 standard, Indiana Harbor Works implemented and documented its environmental management systems throughout the facility. Two comprehensive audits were completed in April and May by SRI Quality System Registrars, Inc., a firm accredited to assess and certify compliance with the standard. Indiana Harbor was recommended for certification following the “Stage 2” audit on 18 May.
