Iraq: refinery contract

Technip has been awarded a services contract worth EUR 20 million for the new Iraqi refinery to be built near Karbala in the south of the country. The future refinery will have a capacity of 140,000bpd and will include 18 process units using the latest technologies and it will also comprise related utilities, offsite facilities and its own power plant. Technip will be responsible for the front-end engineering at the plant, which will produce liquid petroleum gas, gasoline, jet fuel, diesel oil, asphalt and fuel oil mainly for Iraq’s domestic market. Technip said that the lump sum contract awarded by Iraq’s State Co. Oil Project would be managed from its Rome office and it should be finished in the first half of 2010.
