Iran: South Pars tenders

Iran’s National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) has launched tenders for several of the 20 phases of of offshore developments that have been ratified by the Iranian government. Each will be awarded to a partnership of Iranian and foreign oil companies as development contracts by mid-2005. The world’s largest offshore gas field, partially shared with Qatar, has started production from the Petropars-led first phase and Total’s phases 2-3. Phases 4-14 have been contracted out to oil company consortia and the next four phases will be awarded over the next three months. Financial bids for phases 15-16 have been opened contracts are expected to be awarded in the next two weeks. NIOC and the National Iranian gas group Nigec have also sent out tender documents for phases 17-18 and are expecting the technical and financial bids back soon. European oil companies including Eni, Total, Repsol and Shell are tipped to be involved in these tenders in association with Iranian companies such as Petropars.
