India: gas power plant

Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) has inked a deal with GAIL for supply of gas for setting up 1000MW power plant at Ropar. PSEB had decided to shift its plan to set up the gas power project from Doraha in Ludhiana district to the existing premises of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant, Ropar. GAIL and PSEB have recently signed a heads of agreement for the supply of 4.5mmscmd of natural gas for the proposed mega power project. The project is likely to be commissioned by 2012-14 at an estimated cost of INR 4500 crore. The gas for the plant will be available from Dadri-Nangal gas pipeline, being laid by GAIL. Work on the gas pipeline is likely to be completed by next year.
