Algerian state oil and gas company Sonatrach and BP are to finalise a deal for the development of the USD 2.5 billion In Salah gas project, officials at the two companies have said. With reserves estimated at 200 billion cubic metres, In Salah will be the second largest gas field in the vast North African country after Hassi R’mel, run by Sonatrach. The joint venture is expected to go on stream in 2003 with an annual output of nine billion cubic metres of gas to come from El Krechba, Teg and Reg fields, which would increase Algeria’s gas output by 15%.
