The North Eastern Electric Power Corp. Ltd has decided to build 2 medium sized hydel power projects at Pabran and Khongnemchaka on the Barak River in the Tamenglong district of Manipur. While the Pabran project will churn out 190MW of hydel power, the other one at Khongnemchaka will generate 69MW. Barak’s natural upstream flow will be used to produce power. The Central Electricity Authority has already compiled a feasibility report for the projects with the help of a Delhi-based water and power consultative services.
