Howe-Baker Engineers, Ltd, a subsidiary of Chicago Bridge & Iron Company, recently fabricated a modular 4000 BPD UOP Minalk (minimum alkalinity) Merox™ unit for Shell Chemical Yabucoa Inc. in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. The project was fast tracked and Howe-Baker completed the modules in only 10 weeks from the engineering release to shipment.
Howe-Baker fabricated the modules at its wholly owned plant in Tyler, Texas. The completed modules were transported to Puerto Rico where they will be easily installed to form the completed process unit for sulphur reduction. Howe-Baker supplied this unit for Puerto Rico under its alliance with UOP LLC that economically delivers Merox treating options to the refining industry. Merox is a licensed extraction process that was developed by UOP to reduce the mercaptan sulphur content from LPG, naphtha and gasoline streams. Howe-Baker has completed more than 60 modular Merox projects world-wide.
