Hebei delivers nuclear grade steel

China’s nuclear power projects in Fuqing, Sanmen and Haiyang received 6000 tons of nuclear grade steel from Hebei Iron and Steel Group. Used in nuclear power plants for nuclear island equipment as well as traditional island equipment, the shipment marks the first time that nuclear grade steel has been made domestically in China. Hebei has delivered steel to the Ling Ao nuclear power plant. A traditional island, the power plant holds the CPR 1000 reactor which began commercial operation in September 2010. The steel plate necessary for the nuclear island is hard to produce as it must undergo strict quality and technical requirements. Previously, China relied on imports of nuclear grade steel.
