Hard to swallow

Thai doctors operated on a patient to remove a 26-centimetre (10-inch) long stainless steel spatula left inside her six years ago during ovarian surgery. Lumpun Yinsutra, 46, suffered from occasional abdominal pains after the surgery at King Prachadhipok Hospital in SE Chantaburi province, but doctors could find nothing wrong with her, deputy hospital director Seree Sooksangchaya said. But then an X-ray revealed the stray spatula, prompting Lumpun to complain to the hospital, which reportedly paid her 400,000 baht compensation – and offered her the complimentary operation to remove it.
