Following application from a working group spearheaded by the British Stainless Steel Association (BSSA), the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) has formally agreed a new set of operational guidelines and code of practice (OGCP) regarding the use of stainless-steel products in contact with drinking water for public supply.
By recommending approval for stainless-steel products, conforming to tested grades and used in accordance with the OGCP, the DWI has provided opportunities for companies to obtain approvals for their own specific products.
However as a consequence of this new legislation, water companies and contractors will only be able to use stainless-steel products from specific firms approved by the DWI. Application forms seeking approval from the DWI which relate to this new Regulation 25 Letter 7/2001 can be obtained by accessing the DWI website.
