China Guodian Corp. (Beijing) has laid the foundation for its green power project, Phase I of the Tianjin NE suburban thermal power plant, on 21 November 2007. The ceremony was held in northern China’s Tianjin City. The project is one of China Guodian’s first urban power projects in a city directly under the State Council, and it is also the first green power project furnished with advanced environment-protection technologies, such as flue gas desulfurization, denitration and an integrated chimney-cooling tower, Chen Fei, China Guodian’s Vice President, said at the ceremony. The power plant is targeting energy conservation and environmental protection and has effective energy conservation means, including a centralized heat supply and the ability to utilize intermediate water. The project will play an important function in promoting energy conservation and emissions reduction in Tianjin. The plant is jointly invested by China Guodian and Tianjin Jineng Investment Co. Ltd (Tianjin). It has a total planned capacity of 1320MW with four 330MW units. Phase I will be furnished with two 330MW combined-heat and power coal-fired generating units with an estimated total investment of USD 358 million. The project is expected to go into operation in May 2009. Upon completion, the project will have an annual power output of 3.3 billion kilowatt-hours and an annual heat-supply capacity of 5.71 million gigajoules capable of covering a heat-supply area of 13 million sq/m.
