Grand opening: Stainless steel plate factory in S.Korea

SM Steel (an SM Group subsidiary) recently hosted an opening ceremony for its USD 130 million stainless steel plate factory in the Gunsan Free Trade Zone in South Korea. With a 100,000 ton production capacity, SM Steel is now ready to start manufacturing high quality stainless steel plate for the heavy and chemical industries.

SM Steel CEO Mr Kim Ki Ho said: “I want to thank everyone for their dedication in completing this factory despite the hard time from impact of COVID-19.  Now we are ready to supply our best quality product to our customers.”;

Corrosion resistant, temperature resistant, with a high tensile strength and very durable, stainless steel plate finds applications in oil refinery, LNG facility, Petro chemical industry, power plant, ship building industry, and display facility.

Stainless steel plate is normally 5-200mm in thickness, with widths up to 4m, and lengths of 13m. With its new plant, SM Steel is now one of the few companies globally (and the first in South Korea) that can manufacture ultrathin plates from 5mm and ultrawide plates up to 4,000mm. A Steel Plantec 4th generation leveller from Japan guarantees the highest quality level.

SM Group CEO Mr U Oh Hyeon noted that: “Now we are prepared to compete in global market, and we will not stop investing until we become the undisputed leader in stainless steel industry.”;
