Germany: waste-to-energy incineration facility

Impregilo’s German subsidiary Fisia Babcock Environment GmbH, a constructor of thermal waste treatment and flue gas cleaning plants, had been awarded a new engineering and construction contract by the city of Berlin for a waste-to-energy incineration facility. The new plant on the banks of the Spree river is equipped with a single 40tns/hr incinerator and energy recovery line to burn solid municipal waste, a large air-cooled grate-firing system, an overall thermal capacity of 90MWt, and a high-efficiency flue-gas cleaning system. Fisia Babcock, active in environmental protection all over the world, is currently handling the engineering and construction projects for ten thermal MSW waste-to-energy plants, notably in Germany, Sweden, Norway and Italy. Awarded by Berlin City Council, the project is worth more than EUR 100 million.
