Ruhr Oel GmbH, represented by the operating company BP Gelsenkirchen GmbH, has commissioned Uhde to design and build a turnkey plant for reformate separation at their refinery site in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The scope of services will include the extended basic engineering, detail engineering, supply of all material and equipment, construction work and commissioning of the plant. The contract is worth between EUR 30 – EUR 40 million. Aromatics-rich reformate from a catalytic reformer will be separated by distillation into different aromatic fractions, i.e. benzene, toluene and xylene as well as higher aromatic hydrocarbons, at the reformate separation plant. These fractions can then be used as blending components for gasolines or as a feedstock for the production of pure aromatics. The new plant will have an annual throughput of some 1.1 million tonnes of reformate. It will operate much more cost-effectively than the reformate separation plant operated to date and will come on-stream in the first half of 2007.
