GC4220 carbide grade

Sandvik Coromant has introduced its GC4220 carbide grade with an improved substrate and coating. The grade is designed to carry out medium to rough milling in hard metals or at high speed milling’s elevated temperatures. It promises 20%-30% improvement in productivity against the current grade, said Sandvik. The GC4220 grade guarantees better security at higher speeds and higher feed rates than GC4020, good performance in unmanned production plus higher metal removal rate. The special strength of GC4220 lies in its resistance to crater wear and plastic deformation, common wear problems when running at high speeds and feeds. GC4220 is suitable for applications in all CoroMill tooling concepts.
