Gas reserves in Tripura

ONGC has found a new gas reserve at Sundalbari in Tripura, India, as the exploratory well drilled in April has flowed gas from two sand formations at the rate of 85,000 and 80,000cum per day. The company has identified two new gas reserves in the state this year as ONGC has struck gas at Kunjaban in Tripura earlier in May. A 54 billion cum of in place gas reserve from seven fields excluding the Kunjaban and Sundalbari block has been found in the state. Both the Kunjaban and Sundalbari are referred to the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons for their testing results. There is also a proposal of setting up of a 750MW gas-based power plant in Tripura for monetisation of the natural gas.
