Gas plant for Bangladesh

Wärtsilä has been awarded a contract by Surma Energy Ltd, part of Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd, to supply a 30 MW gas power plant for a new cement plant in NE Bangladesh. The value of the order is approximately EUR 15 million. The power plant ordered in December is due for commissioning in early 2005. The power plant will be installed with four gas engines for baseload operation and two diesel engines for peak load operation. The power plant will operate independently of any external network. The power plant will comprise four Wärtsilä 18V34SG gas engines and two Wärtsilä 18V200 diesel engines. The 18V34SG-engined sets will each deliver 5990 kWe at 750 rpm, and the 18V200 sets 3450 kWe at 1500 rpm. The gas engines will be for normal baseload operation on natural gas while the 18V200-engined sets will be for peak load operation during the starting of main motors in the cement plant.
