FWC to build chemical plant for Sasol

Foster Wheeler Ltd’s subsidiary, Foster Wheeler South Africa (Pty) Ltd, is to build an acrylic acid and acrylates complex in Sasolburg, South Africa. The contract is for USD 20 million. The acrylic acid and acrylates facility is being planned as a joint venture between Sasol and Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC). The facility, comprising four production units, will produce 80,000 tonnes of acrylic acid and the equivalent acrylates products annually. It marks MCC’s first investment in South Africa’s rapidly emerging chemical industry. Foster Wheeler is responsible for the detailed engineering design, procurement for and on behalf of Sasol and will manage the project and its construction up to and including Ready for Commissioning of the facility. The acrylic acid and acrylates facility forms the second phase of a chemical complex that Sasol plans to build at the site.
