General Electric Co, Alstom, Siemens AG and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have been shortlisted to supply power generating equipment for 10 gas-fired power plants across China as part of the country’s west-east gas project, the China Daily reported citing Jiang Xinshen, president of the China National Technical Import and Export Company. The companies will be asked to submit bids to provide equipment for the plants and the winner will be announced early next year. Jiang did not say how much the contract will be worth or the amount of investment needed to build the 10 plants which will have a total of 23 generating units. The plants will be built along the route of the planned 4000km gas pipeline that will transport natural gas from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in NW China to Shanghai in the east.
