FLSmidth air pollution control system for Essar

FLSmidth has received a contract worth approximately USD 40M from Essar Steel Minnesota for mechanical installation of a complete Air Pollution Control system for the Group’s greenfield iron ore pelletizing plant. The plant is located in Nashwauk, 100 miles North West of Duluth in Minnesota, US.

The contract is an addition to previous orders from Essar covering complete system engineering as well as supply of key-parts and fabricated steel for the comprehensive Air Pollution Control system from FLSmidth, comprising Gas Suspension Absorbers (FLS-GSA®), cyclones, Fabric Filters, flue gas ducting and related dust transportation equipment.

This large order represents a complete Air Pollution Control system within the environmental segment. The system will be installed at the end of the production process to minimise the environmental impact and prevent harmful pollutants from the production of taconite pellets from passing into the atmosphere. When completed, the plant will have a capacity of 7Mt of taconite pellets per year.

“Over the years we have established a strong collaboration with Essar, and our vast experience within Air Pollution Control, system reliability and superior performance helped us secure the order. Furthermore, our continued co-operation with Essar shows the significant potential for our Product Companies”, says Bjarne Moltke Hansen, group executive vice president of the Product Companies Division.
