Fives Stein, a designer and supplier of thermal solutions for steel and glass applications, was awarded a major contract for Indian group Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), one of the largest steel makers in the world, for a walking beam furnace for the Raigarh works of JSPL.
This furnace will be unique in its kind. The new furnace will be burning 100% blast furnace gas (BFG) as fuel through regenerative burners. In addition, the furnace will also be equipped with a backup system for combustion firing fuel oil to run the furnace when BF gas is not available. This furnace will be a unique one of its kind in the world with a HFO firing backup system in addition to the BFG firing regenerative burners system in the same furnace.
This is not the first time that Fives Stein has been contracted by JSPL for the walking beam furnaces. Fives Stein had already supplied three walking beam furnaces for its Patratu and Angul works prior to this. This furnace is expected to be commissioned in June 2015.
