Fives, a global industrial engineering group, has reinforced its position in the Indian steel market by signing contracts to design and supply four new reheating furnaces this year,: two for the Rourkela Steel Plant, and two for another Indian steel plant in the western coast.
Primetals Technologies Japan, Ltd. has entrusted Fives with design and supply of two walking beam furnaces of 300 tons per hr capacity each for reheating high quality steel slabs. These two furnaces will serve a new hot strip mill of 3M tons per year to be installed at the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) Rourkela Steel Plant, which is located in the eastern state of Odisha. The new hot strip mill, scheduled for commissioning in 2018, will provide high quality coils for a proposed auto sheet joint-venture with ArcelorMittal.
Fives will supply its Stein Digit@l Furnace® AT technology, equipped with the AdvanTek® combustion system and controlled by the level 2 Virtuo® Edge-R package, ensuring optimum reheating of the slabs with minimum environmental impact. The AdvanTek® burners provide a distinctive feature of fuel flexibility allowing the customer to use available fuels most efficiently and easily switch between low calorific value mixed gas and heavy fuel oil.
