First phase of Bahru Stainless

Construction on the first phase of the Bahru Stainless plant in Malaysia is advancing according to schedule. The first stage of the project will reach a production capacity of 240,000mt/yr including 180,000mt produced by the cold rolling mill. The plant will contain annealing and pickling lines for hot and cold rolled coils, a 1500mm Sendzimir cold rolling mill, Skinpass and finishing lines. The cold rolling mill is expected to open in the summer of 2011. The second phase expansion plan aims to construct a facility to produce value added stainless steel. With operations set to commence in 2013, Bahru Stainless will be a stainless steel integrated plant with a capacity of 1 million mt and a cold rolling capacity of 600,000mt when completed. The total investments approved for phase I and II amount to USD 680 million.
