EURANIMI urges 6-month CBAM grace period

EURANIMI, the European Association of Non-Integrated Metal Importers & Distributors, is urging the European Commission to grant a 6-month grace period before importers are required to surrender CBAM certificates for stainless steel imports.

With the fiscal phase of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), EURANIMI warns that companies still lack the basic data needed to calculate their future CBAM costs.

The Commission’s three Calls for Evidence of 28 August confirm that essential rules needed to make CBAM work in practice – including the methodology for calculating embedded emissions, CBAM benchmarks, default values, and deduction rules for third-country carbon prices – are still under consultation.

While EURANIMI welcomes the Commission’s commitment to thorough preparation, the delay in publishing these key parameters leaves importers unable to plan responsibly for 2026 deliveries.
