Dow Chemical Co. is planning to build an ethylene plant in Seadrift, Texas. The plant, a 900,000-ton ethylene cracker that will use ethane and propane as feedstocks, will be based on the current site of Dow subsidiary Union Carbide’s olefins plant. Union Carbide plans to shut the olefins plan in 2005. Dow Chemical’s ethylene plant is expected to begin operating in 2007, the company said.
