Andritz (Graz, Austria) has been selected to supply all the major production systems for a new hardwood mechanical market pulp mill to be built in Kunda, Estonia. Owners of the project, known as Estonian Cell, are Norwegian Larvik Cell Holding, Austrian Heinzel Group, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). German construction company RWE Industrie-Lösungen GmbH will act as the general contractor for this turn-key project. The order value for Andritz will be approximately 40% of the project’s total investment of slightly more than EUR 100 million. Andritz will deliver the complete mechanical pulp mill – from woodyard, chip handling, impregnation, refining, bleaching, dewatering, drying to finished pulp bales. The mill will use the Andritz P-RCTM APMP technology (Preconditioning Refiner Chemical / Alkaline Peroxide Mechanical Pulping), designed to lower operating costs and improve pulp quality. After start-up, scheduled for the end of 2005, the Estonian mill will produce 140,000 tons of market BCTMP (Bleached Chemi-Thermo Mechanical Pulp) per year, suitable for high-quality printing and writing papers as well as board grades.
