EET Fuels Appoints Rob Wallace as CEO of EET Hydrogen Power

EET Fuels, a vital component of Essar Energy Transition (EET), has named Rob Wallace as the Chief Executive Officer of EET Hydrogen Power, an integral part of the company’s ambitious plans for a hydrogen-ready combined heat and power plant (CHP) at its Stanlow refinery in the UK.

Essar Energy Transition (EET) is a unit of the Essar Group dedicated to driving USD 3.6 billion worth of low-carbon projects in the UK and India over the next five years, with EET Hydrogen Power playing a pivotal role in establishing Stanlow as a leading energy transition hub.

Rob Wallace brings over 25 years of experience in the energy and utilities industry, including significant roles at renowned companies such as Shell and Centrica. His most recent position at the Irish electricity company, ESB, involved overseeing asset commissioning and commercialization, culminating in a newly created role as Hydrogen Manager to deliver ESB’s net zero 2040 strategy.

As CEO of EET Hydrogen Power, Wallace will be responsible for spearheading the construction and management of the CHP plant, a crucial component of EET’s broader ambition to establish an energy transition hub in the North West. This hub will feature the UK’s first low carbon process refinery and leading large-scale low carbon hydrogen production hubs.

EET Hydrogen Power’s significance extends beyond its role in reducing emissions at Stanlow. The CHP plant, more energy efficient than current processes, is poised to deliver an initial 13% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from the site annually, equivalent to 180,000 tonnes. Upon transitioning to EET Hydrogen, a further reduction of 740,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions will be achieved, equivalent to removing 350,000 cars from the road.

Wallace expressed enthusiasm for EET’s ambitious hydrogen and industrial carbon capture projects, highlighting the company’s strides towards innovation and decarbonization in the UK. Tony Fountain, CEO of EET, commended Wallace’s extensive knowledge in hydrogen and power development, emphasizing his valuable contribution to successfully implementing the company’s ambitious decarbonization agenda.
