EAF revamp

Walsin Lihwa Corp. has placed an order with SMS Concast, Switzerland, for the revamp of the existing electric arc furnace for stainless steel production in Yen Shui, Taiwan. In view of the changed market situation, the furnace with a tapping weight of 65tn of liquid steel will now be completely converted to the stainless steel product range. Initially, the AC furnace was used for the production of carbon steels and high-grade stainless chromium steel. The furnace will be equipped with a conventional tapping spout. As part of the new design, the furnace platform will also be renewed. The top section of the furnace will be equipped with more efficient wall-cooling elements. The furnace roof and the lifting system will likewise be modified accordingly. A new hardware and software package is also included in the scope of supply. Commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of 2011.
