Cyclohexane boost

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLP has announced that Saudi Chevron Phillips Company (SCP) is expanding its cyclohexane capacity in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, by 200 million gallons to 95 million gallons to supply its existing customer base. SCP is owned jointly by CPChem and Saudi Industrial Investment Group. This new capacity is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2003. CPChem will continue to market the product that is exported from the region. The Al Jubail facility, which started up in 2000, uses CPChem’s proprietary Aromax® technology to manufacture benzene and hydrogen, both of which are used in the manufacture of cyclohexane. CPChem, along with its affiliates, is the world’s largest producer and marketer of cyclohexane; with four producing plants world-wide with a total supply capacity of approximately 277 million gallons prior to this announcement.
