Brazilian steelmaker CSN has offered USD 3.8B to acquire ThyssenKrupp’s Steel Americas division plants in Brazil and in the US. US steelmaker Nucor, as well as Japanese groups Nippon Steel and JFE, and Luxembourg-based Ternium are among the bidders.
Upon acquistion of the ThyssenKrupp CSA plant in Rio de Janeiro, CSN will have the capacity to produce high quality slabs to supply the Alabama plant. The sale of the Steel Americas division plants in Brazil and in the US is continuing according to plan. In the second phase, which started in November 2012, a selection of interested parties were given the opportunity to analyse the plants in a due diligence process and submit binding purchase offers, the company said.
ThyssenKrupp aims to receive at least EUR 7B for the sale of the two plants, Executive Chairman Heinrich Hiesinger told the German press in late August.
Steel Americas consists of the ThyssenKrupp CSA mill in Brazil and the Steel USA processing plant in Alabama. The division has cost the company some EUR 12B. The division produces, processes and markets high-grade carbon steels.
