Corus to be re-branded

Scunthorpe has announced that its Corus steelworks will be re-branded under the Tata name in the autumn. But Tata, the Indian owners who paid GBP 6.2 billion for Corus in 2007, insist the multi-million pound name change remains a priority. In December 2009, Tata Steel announced that it wanted to ditch the Corus brand and rename it Tata. Company chiefs said it would start this summer. The changeover is seen as part of the transition that began in 2008, when Tata Steel Europe was adopted as the legal name for Corus. Tata has declined to reveal the cost of the re-branding exercise over an 18 month period. It is understood no decision over the design of the new logo for the Scunthorpe site has yet been made. Company chiefs in India are also said to be undecided over retaining the name Corus on certain products made in the UK and the rest of Europe. The re-branding will include signage, clothing, safety equipment, vehicles and stationery and is expected to cost millions of pounds.
