ContourGlobal inaugurates Asa Branca

Power development and operating company ContourGlobal inaugurated its first Wind Farm Complex in Brazil, the 160MW Asa Branca Wind Park in Rio Grande do Norte, in Brazil’s northeast. Dignitaries and community members including State Governor Rosalba Carlini and other local and national authorities were present for the inauguration of the Wind Farm located in João Câmara, Parazinho and Jandaíra.

The Asa Branca project is located in ‘wind country’, an area known for having one of the world’s best wind resources. Together with other wind companies in the region, Asa Branca overcame the significant engineering and logistic challenges required to bring nearly 1000 MW wind generation to a previously sparsely populated area.

Asa Branca required investments of EUR 200M, EUR 150M of which was financed by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social – BNDES). It will generate 160MW of electricity, which is enough to supply 300 thousand homes.

This is ContourGlobal’s third project in the country and continues its global commitment to sustainable development. The company supported numerous social projects designed to help the community. It established a partnership with BNDES to finance social activity to be implemented in the coming months, continuing the development of educational and social projects started during construction.
