ECC Renewables is one of five contractors picked for a 10-year, USD 7 billion contract for geothermal energy by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Support Center in Alabama to develop, build, finance, own and operate geothermal power projects on U.S. Department of Defense installations throughout the U.S. The other contractors are Constellation NewEnergy of Maryland; Massachusetts-based Enel Green Power North America; LTC Federal LLC of Michigan and Siemens Government Technologies of Virginia. The awards were first announced in May. ECC Renewables will compete with other companies.
The projects will be built under long-term power purchase agreements funded by private sector financing. The contracts provide a three-year base with seven one-year options for a total ordering period of 10 years.
This award is the first of four renewable and alternative energy contracts under the USD 7 billion contract. Awards for solar, wind and biomass will be awarded through the end of 2013.
