Cold mill order for SMS Siemag

Bahru Stainless is building a new cold rolling complex in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. SMS Siemag, Germany, is supplying a 20-roll cold mill of type MB 22B-52 for the complex. The supply scope includes the design, manufacture, erection and commissioning of the mechanical equipment, and the auxiliary and ancillary facilities. SMS Siemag’s SUPAFINE® filter system will ensure the environment friendly cleaning and cooling of the rolling oil. As a result of the topographical position, the supply scope also includes a water cooling tower for the supply of cooling water to the rolling-oil filter system and to the electrical drives. Designed for rolling austenitic and ferritic strip grades, the new cold rolling mill can produce a maximum strip width of 1320mm down to a minimum final gage of 0.15mm. The maximum rolling speed is 800m/min. The high deformation allows a thickness reduction of up to 90% to be achieved. Equipped with hydraulic roll gap control and roll crown adjusting systems, the mill stand also features a device for shifting the inner intermediate rolls. The core components of the mill will be fabricated, pre-assembled and tested in SMS Siemag’s Hilchenbach workshops; the mill is scheduled to go into operation by December 2012.
