CNC-Super Slitter in operation

The newly developed CNC-Super Slitter (CNC-SS) of Danieli Fröhling has passed the first production trials. Two of these slitter heads with similar design are in operation at different customers in Germany (Friedr. Gustav Theis GmbH at Hagen and Krupp VDM at Werdohl), incorporated in newly-supplied slitting lines. The CNC-SS have been further enhanced to meet the most demanding material conditions and dimensions. Special solutions allowed to improve stiffness (up to 50%) and optimise tool clamping procedure in order to achieve a far better cutting accuracy and reliability, in particular for super-ductile strip which can be now slit with more cuts. Successful tests were carried out with the so-called “injection needle steelâ€?, having a tensile strength of about 500 N/mm² at an elongation of 50%. Constant slitting of this material at thickness of 0.12 mm and slit strip width of 9 mm is proceeding trouble-free. The materials used were stainless steel strip (Theis) and Al-Cr-steels and Ni-alloyed steels (Krupp).
