Clad metal wire expands design options for medical devices

Custom-manufactured clad composite wire from Anomet Products, Inc., of Shrewsbury, MA, allows medical device makers to innovate by combining multiple properties into a single wire.

Anomet Medical Clad Wire enables characteristics that are not achievable with a single-alloy wire by combining one or more precious metals with a core material to meet specific OEM requirements. The wire is available in diameters ranging from 0.05 mm to 1.52 mm, with cladding thicknesses of 2% or more.

Applications include implantable connectors using platinum bonded to stainless steel or nitinol cores, radiopaque wires combining gold-platinum, platinum-iridium, or tantalum with 316LVM stainless steel, nitinol, or MP35N®. Other clad formulations provide cost-effective alternatives to solid wire while maintaining performance.
